Sewer Force Main Inspection

Pure Technologies has the complete portfolio for sewer force main and large diameter gravity main inspection. As the trusted global leader, we have successfully inspected thousands of miles of pipeline.

Sewer pipeline corrosion and failures are a fact of life for utilities. The use of CCTV has helped utilities get them under control on gravity mains however now Pure Technologies can help do the same for pressurized wastewater pipelines such as force mains and inverted siphons.

Force mains and inverted siphons have unique warning signs of impending failure. Wastewater escaping from these pressurized pipelines not only indicates the loss of structural integrity, but can also wash out bedding causing sinkholes to form and pipes to buckle. Pockets of gas trapped in the lines can allow H2S to build up and eat away at the pipe wall, risking future loss of pipeline integrity.

Pure currently offers the following services for sewer force mains and large diameter gravity main inspection:

PureRobotics™

Long range, multi-sensor robotic inspection vehicles are capable of conducting electromagnetic inspections on PCCP pipelines.

Electromagnetics, sonar, laser profiling and video for depressurized and partially dewatered wastewater pipelines All 18"+ (>450mm)

Sahara® - Tethered Leak Detection for Complex Networks

Sahara consists of a tether-controlled sensor that passes along an in-service pipeline, detecting leaks and pockets of trapped gas in large diameter mains.

Leak and gas pocket detection for In-service wastewater pipelines All 4"+ (>100mm)

SmartBall® - Leak & Gas Pocket Detection

Leak and gas pocket detection using a free-swimming acoustic sensor.

Operating water and wastewater pipelines All 6"+

Visual & Soundings

Visual and sounding inspections are used to quickly identify PCCP pipes in the state of incipient failure. These inspections also provide a detailed as-built laying schedule, carefully documenting the condition of joints and other pipeline defects.

Featured Projects

Baltimore County - Sewer Force Main Assessment

As part of Baltimore County, Maryland’s Wastewater Force Main Asessment Program, Pure Technologies inspected the 54-inch Patapsco PCCP Force Main using the SmartBall® and PipeDiver® pipeline assessment tools.

Grand Forks Wasterwater Authority - North Dakota, U.S.A.

In late October 2008, the Grand Forks Wastewater Authority (Authority) located in Grand Forks; North Dakota initiated a project to conduct a condition assessment of an 8.8 mile 30- and 36-inch wastewater force main.

Assessing Sewer Force Mains

Assessing Sewer Force Mains

A significant percentage of the United States force mains have been in use for several decades and never been assessed or proactively managed. To safely rely on these pipelines, their condition should be periodically checked to ensure there are no locations susceptible to failure.
